This webinar series has been approved for 4.5 LU/HSW from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 

This 3-part webinar series will focus on highlights of the new 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design. The new Standards, adopted by the Department of Justice in 2010, will become mandatory for use on March 15, 2012.

Find out what's been added, removed, revised, and reorganized. Learn what's new from parking to plumbing!

Presented by Nancy Horton, Information Specialist with the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center. Ms. Horton has nearly 25 years of experience in the disability field, including working as an accessibility specialist at Centers for Independent Living, and providing consultations and architectural plans reviews for Eastlake, Derry & Associates.

2010 Standards Update Intro and Overview - Chapters 1-2 -Outline
This session will establish the foundation for the series. Participants will learn about the background of the Standards and where they fit in with other rules, codes, and standards; important regulatory provisions, such as the "safe harbor" allowances; new information about conventions and tolerances; new application and scoping provisions, including new general exceptions; and the new structure and format of the Standards.

This session will address highlights of specific scoping provisions and technical specifications. Participants will learn about new or revised requirements related to "building blocks" (clearances, reach ranges, etc.) general site and building elements, accessible routes, plumbing elements, and communication features such as emergency alarm systems and signage.

This session will continue to address highlights of specific scoping provisions and technical specifications. Participants will learn about new or revised requirements related to assembly areas, kitchens, transient lodging guest rooms, jails and prisons, residential dwelling units, and recreation facilities.

 

 

Are continuing education credits available?

The webinar series has been approved for 4.5 LU/HSW from he American Institute of Architects (AIA). We can also provide a certificate of participation. Certificates and AIA Learning Units will only be awarded after verification of participation through our webinar platform registration.
